About CDT

Cambridge Display Technology (CDT) is a privately held company leading the research, development and commercialisation of light emitting polymer technology, used in the construction of flat panel displays, lighting and photovoltaic applications.

CDT's PLED and dendrimer technologies are based on chemicals which emit light when stimulated electrically, and the resulting devices are targeted for use in a wide range of electronic displays used for information management, communications and entertainment.

Features include reduced thickness and weight, lower power consumption, very wide viewing angles, brighter displays and superior video imaging.

CDT continues to develop the technology with its team of around 100 scientists, and has made dramatic breakthroughs in improved lifetimes and colour values.

The global business strategy of CDT today is to work with the leading companies in the display and related markets, providing licences and co-development services to enable display companies to reduce time to market and to scale-up for production.

The first PLED products to reach the end user market appeared in 2002.

A major benefit of PLED technology is that it can be applied from solution, and CDT has acquired world-leading expertise in ink jet printing for application of the PLED materials. CDT owns 50% of Litrex based in the USA, manufacturers of precision ink jet printing equipment.

CDT has been the recipient of many awards in the last two years, including the Royal Academy of Engineering MacRobert Award and the EU Descartes Prize 2003.
It has been nominated as leader in the Scientific American General Technology category and as one of Time Magazine's fifty hottest technology companies.
