Ink Jet Printing

One of the drivers which is making PLED technology the solution of choice for display companies is the efficiency of manufacture. PLEDs are solution processable and can therefore be applied to a substrate using ink jet printing.

Recognising the importance of developing this field of expertise and supporting its licensees and partners in scaling up for production, CDT has installed the largest ink jet printing facility of its type, and offers a total solution covering all aspects of making displays using ink jet printing.

Ijp cross section

The focus for our efforts is a solution which is:

  • proven
  • fast
  • gives reliable operation and high uptime
  • produces high resolution PLED displays

Our partners can also feel assured of a fully compatible materials set developed by CDT and proven under ink jet production conditions at our Technology Development Centre.

In short, we have:

Extensive ink jet printing facilities
Expertise in all aspect of printing from ink formulation to device physics
Experience in making real displays.

We can offer you a bespoke solution to your ink jet printing needs in both passive and active matrix display formats. Passive displays can be produced in both monochrome or block colour, while active displays can be full colour.

We also offer a complete turnkey solution.

A typical ink jet printing project would have the following stages:

Ink Jet Printing Flow Chart

i) Definition: Specification of bank material and structure, pixel pitch and layout, encapsulation requirements.

ii) Print trials: Formulation of inks, printing of test plates, alignment trials, analysis of results

iii) Display print:  Printing of substrates with TFTs, cathode deposition and encapsulation, tab / driver attachmemnt, testing

iv) Process transfer: Knowledge and skills transfer through hands on training, transfer of formulatiuon and supplier information, consultancy to establish the process at the customer's site.
